Anyone with the vaguest interest in sparse, jangling beats, synth flourishes, handclaps and cowbells, should be familiar with DJ Spun and the label he founded, Rong Music. Few have contributed as much to the ongoing vitality of electronic music in NYC in the new millenium, or been such a welcome guest at the world’s cult house, disco and techno parties. His Promo Only imprint is credited with bringing the worldwide disco edit craze to the U.S. of A. Rong Music and their dual imprint collaboration with fellow NY dancefloor eclecticists DFA put out some of the most compelling, and carefully curated, releases of the Noughts. The parties he throws are the stuff of legend. For seven years the curator of MoMA/P.S.1’s prestigious Warm Up Music series, his All Night Rong parties with DJ Harvey and others boast a devoted following from London to Tokyo. For 20+ years his legendary DJ sets, releases and remixes on his own labels and others have seen him aligning with influential pioneers of danceable electronic music including Maceo Plex, Francois K, DJ Harvey, Daniel Wang, Stephen Hall of Arthur Russell and Loose Joints fame, Douglas J.McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb, James Chance and the Contortions, the Idjut Boys, and many more. Watch out for his latest collaborative projects “BlakSpun” with Mark Bell (aka Blakkat) and live/electronic group “Loose Control Band” with Jonah Sharp (Spacetime Contimuum, Reagenz)… So Rong: so right.

The Pendletons take a bold step with their first full forthcoming length album, 2 Steps Away, releasing this spring on the Bastard Jazz imprint. Recorded in San Francisco with a rock-solid band consisting of some of the best musicians in the Bay Area, including guitarist Carl Locket (Shalamar, Rick James) and Star Creature recording artist Elive, the duo taps into a classic soul/boogie sound that rides a wave of ‘70s and early ‘80s funk with ease but somehow remains true to the excitement of those classic recordings without being overly nostalgic

On this preview 7″ the band showcases the uptempo disco/boogie slapper “You Do You” featuring legendary Soul singer Howard Johnson (Nightflyte / Kashif) while on the flip is the sweet soul of “Life To Me” over an irresistible groove.

Taraval is a San Francisco based producer of underground house and techno music. His debut EPs quietly appeared on Four Tet’s iconic TEXT records and were shortly being rinsed out in Panorama Bar, cutting edge US underground parties, BBC1 Radio 1, and festival main stages the world over. Taraval tracks are a colorful, mutated and personal take on dance music that is none the less precisely constructed for maximum dance floor intensity, evidenced by support from mainroom house DJs to aficionados of the experimental operating in strobe lit backrooms. His journey to solo music making has been long gestating in between stints as secret-weapon sideman for a beloved Canadian electronic act but looks set to accelerate as he accepts invitations to play at beloved US underground club nights as well as iconic techno institutions from London to Berlin. His current ‘EP II’ 12’’ is available on TEXT in all good shops and digitally at taraval.bandcamp.com.

“Tom Noble is somewhat of an Unicorn, at least there is no other person we’ve ever met like him. He is the original dude. Born in raised in Massachusetts he took the long route from Indy Rock to Northern Soul to Disco and Boogie to Afro and Techno.

Owning a record store & reissue label from 2000-2005 brought him up to speed on rare music. Most of the focus going to disco & boogie. After learning how to edit he quickly began to edit songs, the focus always being on refining the songs and turning them into dance floor burners. Soon after this Tom put on his producer hat again and recorded a full length disco LP under the name of House Of Spirits. As of 2016 only one single has been released by Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space imprint.

Tom lives in New York and operates his famed record store Superior Elevation from there since 2014.”
