High Places (Live • Thrill Jockey)

“Despite the duo’s ambitious blending of genres, the colorful, charismatic High Places remains unique and focused, naturally absorbing a rich array of influences and ultimately thriving on the impulses behind them.” -Pitchfork

“Blending beats produced from household objects with reverb-heavy vocal repetition, LA’s electro duo High Places create hypnotic mood music that feels organic, in tune with the ever-shifting and evolving shape of nature. With three full-lengths on Chicago’s Thrill Jockey and almost incessant touring with the likes of Deerhunter and YACHT under their belts, High Places are fresh but resilient.” -Flavorpill

“High Places have moved on, positioning themselves on the fringes of the ongoing chillwave explosion with enough invention to outlast most of its central protagonists.” -BBC

“High Places could be dance music, it could be headphone music, it could be something to put under your pillow and fall asleep to, or it could be all of these things.” – Impose
SHOCK

“spins echoes of Giorgio Moroder, Blondie, and even early Cure into woozy, whispery disco that works equally well for babysitting and baby-making.” -SPIN

“Shock’s picture-perfect debut single “Heaven” is a sultry and seductive pop gem that does inherit its share of sweaty 2am Italo vibes but fortunately doesn’t stop there, culminating in a simply irresistible instrumental bridge that brings in a compelling layer of perfectly shimmering guitars.” -No Fear of Pop

“Shock’s spaced out, slow motion disco funk vibe is keeping me sane today.” -GITNB

“Shock specializes in live riffing and phenomenal grooves, evoking the feel of sleek electronic funk and warm emotional pop. The gentle brush of a wind-chime signals a mental journey from the pyramids to the ocean, where vocals and guitar are surrounded by warm synth layers, deep bass, and electric rhythms. The live Shock performance humanizes the dance-club and evokes a new-age experience that is both contemporary and classic.” -Disco Workout

LES SINS (DJ Set • Jiaolong)

“The man of many names has let his house party ready alter ego, Les Sins, out on the loose. Les Sins has released two new tracks that are blessed with impressive beats. ‘Fetch’ is an electronic dream — a dancefloor ready anthem with spurts of r&b crooning. ‘Taken’ is more subtle and calls for a slower groove, it glows with synthesized rhythms for a good 7 minutes” -Okay Player

“dices up heavy-lidded R&B crooning over a slow, swinging house beat reminiscent of Julio Bashmore’s lusty floor-fillers” -Spin

“…grafting Italo disco, house, and retrofitted roller boogie elements into his already pop-edified palette” -Pitchfork

“Pay homage to the kinds of music that’ve long been blasting from dark Parisian nightclubs.” -XL8R

“sweaty, late-night house beats.” -Consequence of Sound”

SILVER HANDS (Live • Push The Feeling)

“I’m calling it now, something fantastic is a brewin, and it’s going to be big.” -GITNB

“an infectious six minutes of introspective new wave dance trickling with lo-fi glamour.” -Bitzl R

Giraffage

“The music is impressive – lush and dreamy electronic landscapes are woven in with hip hop beats creating a symphony of blissful sounds that will put you in a dreamlike state.” -Yours Truly

“ebullient slice of electronic pop.” -XLR8R

“Giraffage chooses sensory assault over the slow lull of haze and reverb and the results are refreshingly clear, dynamic, and active.”
– I Guess I’m Floating

“the dreamy side of trap-influenced EDM” -Fact Magazine

“Comfort is a blissful blend of dreamy and ethereal fluttering sounds sprinkled with glitchy effects, quirky drums, and beautiful vocal samples. This is definitely some of the flyest damn music around. Listening to the album is akin to dancing on a cloud while drinking the magic fermented nectar of wood sprites.”
– The Find Magazine

Heatherd Pearls

“Jakub Alexander is a Brooklyn-based DJ whose work I’ve followed for some time. He’s one of the contributors behind the always-tasteful ISO50 blog, and he helms Moodgadget, the underrated and eclectic label that is perhaps more than other the ‘farm’ label for Ghostly. Under the alias Heathered Pearls, Jakub is himself on Ghostly, and released an LP entitled Polite Isle.” -Create Digital Music

Chautauqua (DJ Set • Voltaire Records)

“Bowser pilots a hypnotic, synth-driven escapade here, dolloping layers of new-new age pads and celestial melodies on top of a solidly marching disco beat. The almost six-minute endeavor flows with a carefree ease, rendering it both a good theme for forgetting your worries and something that might inspire you to sweat it all out on the floor.” -XLR8R

“If one thing can be said about producer Bobby Browser (the stage moniker for Andre Ferriera), it’s that he knows his dance music history. The statement is somewhat obvious if you’ve had the pleasure of hearing his vintage-sounding, classic-house-inspired tracks.” -SF Weekly

“In typical 100% Silk fashion, the EP’s four trackjoin the dots between touchy-feely, retro-futurist house, acid and slick, mid ’80s synth-boogie. Throughout, the production is blissfully glassy-eyed and authentically vintage. The results are superb…” -Juno

Bobby Browser (Live • 100% Silk)
http://soundcloud.com/bobbybrowser707

“Voltaire label head Randy Ellis and producer Loose Shus collaborated on the four-track release, marrying driving Italo basslines and Krauty synth atmospheres with spare dance beats and new-age vibes. The result is something like a 15-minute spirit quest” -XLR8R
“Held together by the most precise & patient handiwork and aurally-crafted keyboard structures that you can fathom, it’s no wonder you can hear their guiding tones of inspired inspirations falling side-by-side their four productions; putting the likes of the Art Of Noise, Steve Roach, Tangerine Dream, Austra, GateKeeper and (the always loved) The Drive motion picture soundtrack influencing their midsts.” -Aerial Noise

YALLS (Live • Gold Robot)

“Basically we love this dude. He’s yet to put a foot wrong in our opinion” -The 405
“Doesn’t seem to waste an ounce of precious pop while keeping the weird flowing like water.” -YVYNYL

“Recommended listening if you’re taking a bike ride in this beautiful summer weather– or if you’re stuck in a heatwave, also good if you want to push your imagination to cooler limits.” -Listen Before You Buy

“Yalls seems to have used what sounds to be the melancholic score to a distant film. Deep string chords are set to quirky synth hooks and a standard beat. The standout would have to be his dry howling vocals, that sound strange against the almost happy, melodies that appear here and there. I’m curious to see what Yalls brings next. So strange.” -Life Aquatic

Avalon Emerson (DJ Set • Avalon Emerson)

“An intoxicating blend of festivities ripe for springtime sunshine.” -XLR8R

“Superb new track by the fabulous, recently introduced San Francisco-based DJ/producer Avalon Emerson, according to the artist ‘inspired by the loose forms of house’ and flamboyantly spread across almost eight minutes, while being realized with surprisingly few yet stupendously effective and sophisticated means, resulting in a track that sounds both classic and now.” -No Fear of Pop

“I am obsessed.” -Dipped in Dollars

“Blends sample-based boom-bap, ethereal soundscapes, and other genres into an individual statement.” -Prefixmag

“If you’re a fan of the current hip-hop trend towards spacey, hypnotic effects (see: Clams Casino, Evian Christ) or even just ambient electronic music, you’ll definitely want to give this a listen.” The Bay Bridged

“Tammariello’s productions seem to have carved themselves into a unique place between instrumental hip-hop (think Teebs, Bonobo, and the likes) and blissful techno (think Four Tet, Gold Panda, and the likes), incorporating dense soundscapes and sparkling melodies along with deep bass and starkly minimal beats.” -mapzzz

“Think Tycho dipped in blues-heavy RnB.” -Gluttony is the New Black

Chucha Santamaria y Usted (Young Cubs • Live)

“Perhaps disco would have been granted a longer shelf life had it been imbued with a sense of historical significance. Chucha Santamaria Y Usted aims to make that case, a pair of Puerto Rican and Brooklyn natives that now calls Oakland home. With a spirit and political sense that recalls “Arular”-age MIA, the two weave myriad subgenres of dance and pop with their message.” -RCRDLBL

“Craft forward-thinking electronic dance-pop that confronts ideas bigger than just getting people moving” -The Bay Bridged
“The album is arresting, effortlessly and earnestly fusing Latin freestyle, Italo disco, Nineties pop, and electro, along the way referencing Santigold, Ana Tijoux, Madonna, and maybe MIA before she got annoying — and, of course, the cross-pollinated proto-mashups of the American melting pot that Córdova had originally been inspired by.” -East Bay Express

“The irresistibly sleazy, jacked up bassline may as well be a straight sample from the ’80s disco that inspires this hi-energy fantasia, but it’s probably the techno-y electronics, faint Knucklesy arpeggio repetitions, and synthetic horns (some of which is provided by Valet/Miracle Club member Honey Owens and Joshua Anzano) that make this one rise up big time, cementing 100% Silk’s rep for heavy appropriations that are actually “better than the real thing” -Altered Zones

“Sampladelic. It’s a pretty cringe-worthy way of describing anything serious, but as far as the music of Magic Touch (a.k.a. Damon Palermo of Mi Ami) is concerned, its anachronism is entirely appropriate—and meant with positive connotations. Take ‘I Can Feel The Heat,’ the San Francisco artist’s first release, out today on LA’s 100% Silk label. Featuring cameos from Miracles Club’s Honey Owens and Corrine’s Joshua Anzano, ‘I Can Feel The Heat’ acts as a sort of aural history lesson on the touchstone moments of classic underground dance music”. -XLR8R

“club-ready disco-house sounds.” -The Bay Bridged
